Day 26 of in-vitro

Cycle Day: 26
Meds: Low dose aspirin, Lupron shot—once every night
Mood: Content

Here are some updates from the past week:

-Had my baseline internal ultrasound and blood work done on Thursday. Nurse said everything looks fine and they even lowered my dose of Lupron from 10 units to 5 units (doesn’t really matter because I still have to give myself a shot…just less serum).

-Andrew successfully watched four of my daycare kids and even managed to feed them all breakfast while I went to my doctor appointment on Thursday (but he still lucked out with the diaper changes). He did great and they absolutely love him! He is going to get really good at this because starting next week I have ultrasounds every other day!

-Earlier this week I tried giving myself my Lupron shot instead of having Andrew do it. He was already upstairs reading in bed so I figured I would just do it myself and save him the trouble of coming downstairs and helping me with the syringe and serum. Usually I am sitting down and Andrew injects it into my thigh and it never bleeds. Well, when I tried doing it…it started gushing blood! Blood was running down my leg and got all over. I couldn’t get it to stop bleeding for several minutes! Disaster! Lesson learned…don’t stand up with your thigh muscle flexed when giving yourself a shot in the leg.

-I have been sleep walking like crazy! Since I have started Lupron (11 days ago) I have been caught sleep walking 4 times!!! Almost every other night! Three times Andrew has woken up and I have been in our walk-in closet. I have no idea why! He will usually hear me and say “Sara…Sara…come out of the closet!!” and then I will realize what I am doing and then veer off and go next door to the bathroom. I always wake up so ashamed…so I just pretend like I was really planning on going to the bathroom anyways. HA! Then, two nights ago I freaked out in my sleep and made this God-awful snorting noise and shot straight up in bed. Apparently I forgot to move my cell phone that night and it was sitting on the end of our bed. When I jolted straight up in bed I lifted the covers really fast and therefore propelled my phone into the air landing on the floor. The next morning Andrew found my cell phone all the way across the room and wondered how it got there. Oops!

-We survived our first night out on the town while having to give shots. Our friends rented a party bus to celebrate a big event and Andrew and I partied in style…with syringes, serum and Sprite! Woo hoo! We are so crazy! The serum has to be refrigerated so we had to bring a lunchbox size cooler (classy!) with everything in it. We had a tough decision to make about where we wanted to “shoot up” while we were out. It would look a little fishy if we busted out a syringe in the corner of the bar….and it would look pretty goofy if Andrew and I went to the bathroom together to “shoot up”….so we decided on a much classier place….the backseat of someone’s car! HA! We were so wild and crazy with our Sprites and Diet Cokes (caffeine free of course!), but had a great time anyways!

-I feel like our “crazy” nights out are nearly over. Next Monday I start two more different shots. These will be a little tougher to manage because one involves mixing your own serum (you get a vile of liquid and one with powder and you have to mix them a certain way) and the other has this crazy injection contraption (I will show you a picture sometime). But, I don’t think Andrew wants to play Chemist while out at the bar and I think I will have lots of side effects with these drugs (bloating, weight gain, abdominal pain, etc.)

-We are less than two weeks away from egg retrieval and less than three weeks away from blastocyst transfer. Time has gone by faster than I thought it would! Wish us luck!

This is how Andrew and I were last night. Funny video...

We all loved seeing you on the party bus though! Glad you could come out and forget about the rest of the world for a little bit :)
